The 6th match of the Women’s Super Smash T20 will be played between Central Hinds and Auckland Hearts at the Pukekura Park, Plymouth.
Central Hinds have lost their last game against Northern Spirits by 17 runs. After winning the toss, they decided to field first against Northern Spirits. They started well with ball, as Rosemary Mair removed Brooke Haliday early on to provide an important breakthrough. However, coming at number 3, Katie Gurrey played an important knock for her team and scored 57 runs off just 40 deliveries. She combined together with Felicity Leydon Davis for a 4th wicket partnership of 69 runs that changed the course of the game and turned it into Central Hind’s favour. In the end, they managed an over par total of 161 runs in their 20 overs.
Chasing 161 runs, Central Hinds lost Jess Watkins early on in the innings. Emily Cunningham followed the suit and got dismissed at 17 to her name. For the 3rd wicket, there was a nice partnership between Natalie Dodd and Anlo Van Deventer. They added 66 runs for the 3rd wicket and lit some hopes for chasing down the total. However, after the fall of Dodd’s wicket, there was an unbelievable collapse in the middle order of Central Hinds as they got restricted to only 144 runs in 20 overs, losing the game by 17 runs.
Auckland Hearts on the other hand won their last encounter with Otago Sparks. After losing the toss, they were asked to have a bat first. Otago Bowlers put pressure on Auckland batters in the early phase of the innings. Molly Loe and Gemma Adams bowled very tight lines and did not offer any lose balls in the powerplay overs to score freely. After Lauren Down was dismissed by Gemma Adams, Katie Perkins combined with Anna Peterson to stitch a partnership of 74 runs for the 2nd wicket. Anna scored magnificent 68 runs off 51 deliveries that included a wonderfully timed six. Saachi Shahri played a wonderful cameo in the death overs to make sure her team reached a total of 156 in 20 overs.
Auckland Hearts started very well while defending a good total. They picked up 3 of the Otago Sparks’ top order batters within the powerplay overs. Otago Sparks looked in all sorts of trouble when Polly Inglis tried to bail them out of the situation with her brilliant 62 off 61 balls but it was not enough as they kept losing wickets consistently on the other end. In the end, Otago were restricted by Auckland bowlers for only 119 runs as the latter won the game by 37 runs.
