Washington, Nov 03: Polling stations opened in New York, New Jersey and Virginia early Tuesday, marking the start of US Election Day as President Donald Trump seeks to beat forecasts and defeat challenger Joe Biden.

US election results 2020 may take longer to be announced this time because of the sheer volume of mailed-in ballots. Some states will begin counting their mail-in ballot before election day, some will start on election day, some will wait till the close of polling.

On January 20, 2021, the US will welcome its new President.

Clyburn has expressed concerns about voter suppression. He says President Donald Trump has been “literally stoking flames of indecision, unrest, threatening violence.” Clyburn says the nation’s division “didn’t start with Trump, and it won’t stop with Trump.”

Clyburn says, “Holding the House would just be status quo. Winning the Senate would make it good.” Democrats control the House 232-197, with five open seats and one independent. It takes 218 seats to control the chamber. Republicans control the Senate.

The third-ranking Democrat in the US House is predicting Democrats will pick up as many as a dozen House seats. Majority Whip Jim Clyburn told reporters outside a polling place in Columbia, South Carolina, on Tuesday that he believed it would be a “good night for Democrats” up and down the ticket.

The latest tally of early voting in the US shows that almost 102 million Americans cast their votes before Election Day.

The White House Wednesday said Donald Trump was “fighting for public safety while ensuring that our justice system serves every American community and provides second chances for those who are ready to give back and rebuild.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into a spate of mysterious robocalls urging people to stay home on Election Day, a Department of Homeland Security official said. The FBI did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Democrats are favored to emerge from 14 hotly contested U.S. Senate races with full control of Congress in Tuesday’s election, but final results from at least five of those contests may not be available for days, and in some cases, months.

Wearing face masks and standing spaced apart, Americans waited at polling stations early on Tuesday to choose a president on an Election Day marked so far by orderliness and short lines, even as major cities braced for potential unrest.

Joe Biden today visited St Paul’s in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He attended the grammar school here and this city is widely believed to have left an indelible impression on him.

The number of people attending today’s White House election night party has been reduced to 250, CNN reported a source as saying.
